Attitude Hotels is delighted to announce the opening of its very first hotel outside of Mauritius. Matemwe Attitude is a four-star eco-committed adults-only resort on the tranquil northeast coast of Zanzibar. The hotel will open its doors in November 2025.
More than a stay, it’s a reconnection
At Matemwe Attitude, you don't stay to follow the latest trends.

There are no detox challenges or perfect yoga poses. Just the essentials: a return to yourself, to nature and your desires, to the present moment. Located on a peaceful corner of the island, the setting lends itself to this.
The hotel offers 74 villas (From 74m² to 101m²) bathed in light, with swimming pools adjoining outdoor spaces and decor inspired by the many influences of Swahili culture.
Curved coral-coloured walls, makuti roofs and colourful stained glass windows: each villa embodies the skills of local craftspeople.
Local experiences and flavours
Matemwe Attitude offers experiences rooted in the island, its riches and traditions: sailing in a traditional dhow, a spa using regionally-grown and natural products, a shop offering 100% locally-made souvenirs, or diving around Mnemba Island.
Between now and the opening, new experiences will be added to this collection in collaboration with local partners.
In terms of cuisine, the tables reflect the culinary identity of Zanzibar. Two restaurants and three bars showcase local produce with a simple, tasty menu served with your feet in the sand or by the pool.
A vision of sustainable and virtuous tourism
The new hotel is part of the Attitude Group, a company with a certified B Corp mission. Since its creation and through concrete actions, the group has defended a form of tourism that benefits both those who travel – and the regions and communities that welcome them.
Matemwe Attitude extends this commitment by integrating sustainability into every aspect of the guest experience and the life of the hotel:
Supporting the local community: from handcrafted decor to locally-sourced ingredients, the hotel works closely with Zanzibari artisans and suppliers to promote the local economy.
Protecting the environment: guests can help themselves at the bulk shop to avoid single-use plastic and visit the Marine Discovery Centre to learn about ocean conservation efforts.
Caring for people: Attitude Hotels is dedicated to employee wellbeing and offers training, career development, health benefits, and profit-sharing opportunities across all of its hotels.
This first international roll-out is a key step for the group. Zanzibar shares many natural affinities with Mauritius: an unspoilt island environment, a mixed culture and a deep sense of hospitality. A new destination, but with the same ambition.
“Matemwe Attitude reflects what we have always stood for: tourism that is meaningful, rooted in each destination and sustainable,” says Vincent Desvaux de Marigny, CEO of the Attitude Group.
