The Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO) proudly presents the Safari Guide Code of Conduct and Ethics, designed to elevate safari guiding standards across Tanzania.

This comprehensive code emphasises professionalism, legal compliance, privacy, inclusiveness, vehicle safety, environmental impact, respectful wildlife interaction, and cultural sensitivity.

By adopting these guidelines, tour operators and guides can enhance the quality and image of safari guiding in Tanzania.

The document opens with the words of Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere ("The Father of the Nation" from his Arusha Manifesto, 1961.

“The survival of our wildlife is a matter of grave concern to all of us in Africa. These wild creatures amid the wild places they inhabit are not only important as a source of wonder and inspiration but are an integral part of our natural resources and our future livelihood and wellbeing.

In accepting the trusteeship of our wildlife, we solemnly declare that we will do everything in our power to make sure that our children’s grandchildren will be able to enjoy this rich and precious inheritance.

The conservation of wildlife and wild places calls for specialist knowledge, trained manpower, and money and we look to other nations to cooperate with us in this important task - the success or failure of which not only affects the continent of Africa but the rest of the world as well.”

Head of Tourism Marketing, Tim Henshall added, "This innovative and market-leading approach illustrates the commitment of Tanzania's leading tour operators in the private sector to ensure standards are known and adhered to, for the sake of the wildlife, the community, the visitor and the future."
