TATO offer ideal introductory fams for first-timers.



The Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO) has released details of their extensive fam trip programme to Northern Tanzania for the latter part of 2024.


From a UK perspective, we believe these trips are ideal for those newer to Tanzania. The focus here is upon experiencing various key locations within the Northern circuit, and less upon visiting properties.


OCTOBER : 10-days from 13th-22nd October or 7-days from 13th-19th October

NOVEMBER : 10-days from 10th-19th November or 7-days from 10th - 16th November

Day 01: Kilimanjaro Airport – Arusha Town

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport; meet and greet by the FAM trip Safari ground handler – a TATO member, and transfer from the airport to Arusha Town. Dinner and overnight in Arusha on a half-board basis.


Day 02: Arusha Town

After breakfast, enjoy a morning Arusha city tour, including a hotel inspection with lunch. Attend a networking event organized by the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO), providing agents with the opportunity to meet Tour Operators and Lodge/Camp owners. Dinner and overnight in Arusha on a half-board basis.


Day 03: Arusha – Manyara Region

Following breakfast, departure at 8:00 a.m. to Manyara Region to explore Manyara National Park, nestled between Lake Manyara on its eastern side and the majestic Manyara Escarpment on its western side, renowned for its population of iconic tree-climbing lions. Hot lunch followed by an afternoon visit to an African Art Gallery. Transfer to your accommodation. Dinner and overnight in the Manyara area on a full-board basis.


Day 04: Climb the Rift Valley Escarpment to the Serengeti

After breakfast, travel by road to Serengeti National Park. Stop at the viewpoint in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to take in the breathtaking view of the Ngorongoro Crater. Then, explore the Olduvai Gorge Museum, offering insights into the origins of humanity and the mysteries of our evolutionary past. Enjoy a picnic lunch at Naabi Kopjes. Embark on game drives in Serengeti National Park, keeping an eye out for the Serengeti Great Migration, an annual natural phenomenon where millions of wildebeest, zebras, and other herbivores migrate across the Serengeti ecosystem in pursuit of fresh grazing grounds, closely followed by predators. Transfer to your accommodation. Dinner and overnight in the Serengeti on a full-board basis.


Day 05: Discover Serengeti National Park

Game drives in Serengeti National Park provide the opportunity to witness the vast, endless plains teeming with enormous herds of wildebeest and zebra during migration. Yet, the wildlife spectacle extends beyond this, with sightings of elephants, giraffes, lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Enjoy a lodge inspection with lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive en route to your accommodation. Dinner and overnight in the Serengeti on a full-board basis.


Day 06: Birds-eye view of the Serengeti

Early morning Hot-Air Balloon Safari with a champagne bush breakfast. Continue your exploration of the remarkable flora and fauna of the Serengeti through game drives as you head south. In the afternoon, venture into the Ndutu area within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Lunch will be served hot or packed, allowing you to refuel for your adventures. Transfer to your accommodation. Dinner and overnight in South Serengeti/Ngorongoro Conservation Area on a full-board basis.


Day 07: Explore Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, proceed with a drive to the Ngorongoro Crater. Descend into the crater and engage in morning game drives to discover its abundant wildlife. The Ngorongoro Crater is renowned for its diverse array of animals, as it provides a constant supply of grass and water. Keep a lookout for the iconic 'Big Five': lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and buffalo. Enjoy an inspection with lunch on the Ngorongoro Crater rim. Transfer to your accommodation. Dinner and overnight in Ngorongoro area on a full-board basis.


Day 08: Discovering Tarangire

After breakfast, depart for Tarangire National Park for a game drive. During the dry season from July to October, the Tarangire River serves as the sole water source within the National Park, attracting animals such as elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, and many more to its banks. Naturally, predators are not far behind! Hotel inspection with lunch. Transfer to your accommodation. Dinner and overnight in the Tarangire area on a full-board basis.


Day 09: Meet “The Maasai”

Explore a traditional Maasai home called “a boma”, and immerse yourself in the authentic lifestyle of this nomadic tribe. Following an early lunch, journey through Arusha en route to Kilimanjaro National Park. Transfer to your accommodation. Dinner and overnight in the Kilimanjaro area on a half-board basis. 6


Day 10: Roof of Africa: Mount Kilimanjaro .

After an early breakfast, enjoy a short trek on the foot slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, lasting approximately 1-2 hours. This trek will be guided by a certified mountain guide from a recognized mountain trekking operator – a TATO member. With good weather, there is a high chance of viewing the Roof of Africa. Hot or packed lunch. Day 10: Safari Ends Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport, departing in the afternoon/evening hours. End of Service.
